Weekend Wear - New Buffalo Grad Party

Weekends up at our family lake house up in New Buffalo, Michigan are always the perfect ending to a long week. With a beautiful spot on Lake Michigan and the charm of a small town, New Buffalo is the ultimate summer destination. Last weekend we attended a graduation party for Emily's friend, Alexis, which conveniently was held in New Buff {our abbrev-ed version}, where her family has a home as well. While we were both looking forward to a memorable night with friends and family, true to our normal fashion {pun intended?}, we couldn't have dressed more differently - although we both incorporated a dominant pattern! Oh, and we both also love having Caitlin's dog, Macy, as a photo shoot companion. That's three alike points - must be a record!

You'll notice as you scroll through the pictures that I had a bit of a wardrobe change. I was initially wearing the dress pictured below, but upon arriving at the party I realized it was a bit too windy to be sporting a flow-y dress {...I had a few too many Marilyn moments which was foreshadowed by the fact that I had to hold my dress down in almost every picture}. I quickly drove back home and changed into a pair of new, woven tribal patterned shorts that I picked up during my stay in Charleston. Not only was I relieved of my wardrobe malfunctions, I was comfier in shorts and a tee - my normal summer wear. As always, my outfit was full on color and low on fuss {well, the second one, at least}...just the way I like it.

Now, these pants probably look familiar, but I have only worn them once {here} and I was looking for a new way to style them. I got this sheer, beaded top last year from TopShop and it the perfect complement to balance the bold floral print. But, the best part of all was that all of the fabrics were lightweight enough to withstand the intense hot, humid summers so notorious in the midwest.

Our Take On - J.Crew Tweed Skirt

Well, now that Emily has returned from her cross-country {well cross-southeast-country} road trip, we are back to bring you our takes on, what we wore and more! We'll start with this J.Crew multi-colored tweed skirt that be both coincidentally {or not?} own. Enjoy!

EMILY
If you're a consistent reader, you've seen me sport this skirt before in our 'getting vested' post. Looking just a bit different this time, the skirt was the perfect item for me to wear to the chloe+isabel trunk show benefiting Susan G Komen I'd been planning for months. I had to incorporate pink into my outfit, and rather than pair it with a neutral piece, it seemed only natural {in sticking with my inherently colorful style} to accompany this neon shirt with a rainbow palette. The multi tweed material is subtle enough, however, that the combo wasn't overpowering or over-the-top. It was just the right amount of color {for me, at least} and was the appropriate level of dressy to wear to the fundraiser!

Since my work dress code is relaxed, I don't have a whole lot of "business casual" attire. So on occasions when I need to dress up for a meeting or "just because," I tend to repurpose the same few items in new ways. This skirt is one of those things. The best thing about it is that the multi-color tweed allows you to wear a variety of colored {or color-less} tops to bring out particular hues within the skirt. Below I wore the skirt two ways: one with a florescent coral blouse {one of my new favorite colors to wear} and another time with a sweet, ivory peplum shift top. So, consider this a twofer :)

Weekend Wear - Bridal Brunch

This past Sunday, my mom helped co-host a bridal shower for one of her best friend's daughters (who also happens to be one of my childhood best friends). Naturally, I was game to help with the decorations and set up. I had been scouring Pinterest and Etsy trying to find a couple items that would help spruce up the decor and would of course match with the look of shower invite. And since the bride's wedding is going to be in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, I wanted to ensure the decorations felt natural, fun, and homey- nothing too fussy. With the help of some poms, mason jars, tinsel garland and some festive straws, it was just enough to add a bespoke flair to the existing decor (her aunt made some gorgeous flower arrangements from the gardens of all of the neighbors!). All in all, it was a great time. I am looking forward to the wedding! Be sure to expect lots of photos!

Weekday Wear

I have had this dress for years and consider it a special find. It's from a boutique in Bucktown called Tangerine that has great well-known and up-and-coming designers too {which reminds me, I need to pay another visit there soon}. I bought this dress on a major sale. I think it was like $100 down from $300+. I love that it's feminine with a bit of an edge {note the studs}. It's a perfect, easy summer dress {but I have also worn it in winter with tights and a blazer}.

Our Take On - Neon, Neon

Top: BGBG {no longer available}; Skirt: J. Crew {no longer available}; Sandals: Rachel Zoe; Sunglasses: Chloe
Since Emily is out exploring the good old US of A on a road trip with her girlfriends for the next two weeks {yes, I'm jealous}, I, Caitlin, will be your resident d&d blogger. And, yes, I just quoted a John Mayer song in this post's title, so sue me :) But, c'mon you know you love that one too!
Anyway, I think I speak for both of us when I say we are so elated that it's now socially acceptable to wear neon beyond your sports bra at the gym. Naturally, we take advantage of this as much as possible. But since it's just me now, here is just one take on neon.

Now, as I implied, I love neon, but generally like to tone down its intensity with something a bit more subdued, like nude. This is the first time I have worn this skirt in warm weather, as I feel it usually needs opaque tights since it's a wee bit short. But with these amazing nude flat sandals {which I wear pretty much daily}, the look still feels daytime appropriate.

What trend shall we tackle next? Any recos?

Hope you had a wonderful weekend all!
Love,
c(&e)

Our Take On - Vegas Baby

Hi Friends! We are so sorry for our recent absence, but we are glad to be back in the blog-o-sphere! We have been living it up in Las Vegas with our significant others the past week, snapping photos of some of our looks along the way. These pictures were taken in our room at the Wynn before a night out to dinner at LAVO and Cirque de Soleil's "O" (a MUST-see next time you find yourself in Vegas). And since it is "Sin City" after all, we took advantage of the opportunity to turn up the sparkle a little bit :)

More to come soon this weekend, so stay tuned!
Love,
c&e
